Based in Tokyo, Japan, Mr BASS is responsible for sourcing, executing and closing private real estate investments in Japan, as well as building our overall capability in the region, including establishing a Tokyo-based team.

Mr BASS has worked in Japan for over 25 years and is fluent in the language. During that time, he has been engaged in real estate investments in the major North Asian Markets, with extensive investment and portfolio management experience in Japan. Most recently, he served as Senior Director, Portfolio Manager, Alternative and Strategic Transactions at Nuveen Real Estate, where he was the lead portfolio manager of the firm’s Japan Alternatives Living Fund. Prior to joining Nuveen, he founded AR Capital Advisors, a consultancy that originated investments for institutional investors and employed data science to enhance investment decisions. Previously, he led investment teams and served on investment committees for real estate managers including CBRE IM, AEW and Macquarie Group. From 2010 to 2018, Mr BASS was a Partner at Orion Partners (acquired by Abdrn) where he was a member of the firm's leadership team and led its Japan real estate business.

Mr BASS graduated with a B.A. in economics from Vassar College in New York and a Ph.D. in Urban Planning from UCLA. He studied economics at Gakushuin University in Tokyo on a scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education. He completed the Post-Graduate Programme in Data Science and Business Analytics at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute's APAC Housing Council and Japan Council and a member of ANREV’s Technology & Innovation Committee.
