Together We Thrive: A Dedication to Sharing, Co-Creation, and Inclusivity

When people think of Link, they often picture neighbourhood shopping centres, revitalised fresh markets and an extensive network of car parks across Hong Kong’s public housing estates. These facilities, embedded in the daily lives of millions, are more than commercial venues; they function as essential infrastructure. As community commerce and everyday life are inextricably linked, Link has long worked towards building stronger communities, upgrading facilities for greater comfort, and reinvesting resources to enhance residents’ sense of wellbeing and belonging.

Walk through different neighbourhoods, and you will see that Link operates more than shopping centres. The company is committed to creating public spaces with a genuine local character. Everyone can use these spaces conveniently, regardless of age, physical ability or income. They add vitality and colour to daily life, becoming natural gathering spots for residents.

Link is equally focused on building society’s future. Through the flagship charity and community engagement programme “Link Together Initiatives”, the company collaborates with charitable organisations on innovative projects spanning three key areas: environmental sustainability, inclusion and active ageing, and youth empowerment. Each year, Link allocates up to 0.25% of its net property income from the previous financial year to “Link Together Initiatives”. Since its launch in 2013, the programme has committed more than HK$174 million, supporting over 200 projects across 120 charitable organisations and benefitting more than 20 million people – serving as a vital bridge across neighbourhoods.

The “We Link We Share Programme”, supported by Link and operated by Food Angel, prepares meal boxes and food packs for individuals and families in need, with an annual goal of recovering more than 375 tonnes of surplus food and reaching over 1.3 million beneficiaries.

The Environmental Association has created 10 butterfly gardens in the outdoor spaces of Link’s shopping malls. Each garden is maintained by local volunteer teams, successfully establishing an ecological network that links the environment and community.

In advancing social projects, Link integrates meaningful impact with core business operations. Its partnership with Food Angel, established in 2016, exemplifies this philosophy. Link collects surplus food from 39 fresh markets under its management and places food collection boxes at 16 shopping malls, enabling the public to donate safe, edible food. These donations are transformed into meal boxes and food packs for the elderly and families in need. Beyond reducing waste, this practical initiative conveys compassion through food, turning what would be discarded into nourishment and human connection.

Working in harmony with nature, Link creates spaces where people and the environment thrive together. Link has transformed outdoor spaces at 10 shopping centres into community butterfly gardens, established in collaboration with the Environmental Association. Local residents are invited to help maintain these gardens, fostering deeper connections between people and nature while strengthening a sense of belonging.

Arts’ Options’ “Deep-rooted Multi Performing Arts Programme for Golden Agers” continues to empower seniors by offering them professional drama training and train-the-trainer courses.

Link partners with district elderly care centres to explain the nutritional value and development of soft meals to seniors and their carers, distributing soft meal vouchers so seniors can experience the deliciousness of these meals.

As Hong Kong’s population ages, there is growing recognition that the elderly have much to offer and that meeting their evolving needs helps them thrive. Link believes seniors can continue to play active roles in society with the right platform. For years, Link has supported Arts’ Options, a charitable organisation that discovers seniors’ theatrical talents through performing arts and offers opportunities for them to shine on stage. Participants have performed publicly in the UK and Singapore, showcasing Hong Kong seniors’ vitality and flair to the world. Link also collaborates with tenants to promote soft meals and partners with universities to set up “Mobile Swallowing Assessment Stations” at shopping malls in various districts, enabling seniors to rediscover the joy of eating and enjoy a more comfortable retirement.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Link’s listing, Link has launched the “Link 20th Anniversary Outstanding Student Scholarship” to recognise outstanding secondary school students and encourage their active participation in school and community affairs.

Nurturing the younger generation is key to society’s continued progress. Since 2015, Link has established the “Link University Scholarship”, which has awarded more than 2,000 scholarships to Hong Kong students who are the first in three generations of their families to attend a local university. Beyond financial aid, Link envisions this initiative becoming a springboard for young people’s development. Through career workshops, environmental volunteer activities and cultural inclusion programmes organised by Link Scholars Alumni, alongside summer internship opportunities with Link and its corporate partners, young people can explore their futures while learning more about themselves and caring for society.

As Link commemorates the 20th anniversary of its listing this year, it launched the “Link 20th Anniversary Outstanding Student Scholarship” to recognise 100 secondary school students who demonstrate both academic excellence and actively contribute to their schools and communities. These young people were invited to create innovative solutions centred on the theme of active ageing, demonstrating their understanding of elderly needs and providing fresh perspectives on the inclusive society.

Two decades on, Link remains committed to the mission of “Linking People to a Brighter Future”, growing alongside the communities it serves. Looking ahead to the next 20 years, Link will continue working with community partners in collaborative, innovative ways, meeting society’s evolving needs and making daily life better for all.
